History of Gringle, Doherty & Wheat
The following is a summary of the past and present activity of Gringle and Doherty, Inc. in the real estate market area encompassing Delray Beach, Gulf Stream, Ocean Ridge, Highland Beach, Boynton Beach and north Boca Raton. The firm was founded by Mrs. Eleanor N. Gringle in 1949 and has flourished for many years dealing in luxury homes, ocean front properties, seasonal rentals, commercial and management activities. From 1953 until 1970, the firm was known as Gringle and Lankton, with the late Mr. L Stuart Lankton as partner.
 Mr. Alvin A. Doherty joined the firm in 1971 and the name was changed to Gringle and Doherty, later incorporated in 1973 to Gringle and Doherty, Inc. Mrs. Gringle passed away in June of 1988. Mr. Alvin A. Doherty became principal broker and President in reorganization of the company. Mr. Doherty is a Graduate of the Realtors Institute (GRI) and holds the Certified Residential Specialist (CRS) and the Certified Real Estate Brokerage Manager (CRB) national designations. He is a Past President of the Delray Beach Board of Realtors, Chamber of Commerce and the Lions Club. Mr. Doherty is a member and past chairman of the Palm Beach County Realtor-Attorney Committee and currently serves as the Director, Treasurer and Finance chairman of the Board of Realtors. He was named Realtor of the Year in 1976 and 1988. He is active in the Florida Association of Realtors, serving as Chairman of the Realtor-Attorney and Professional Standards Committees.  In May, 1989, Mr. Franklin D. Wheat became a partner in Gringle and Doherty, Inc. Mr. Wheat had been President of his Delray Beach real estate appraisal and brokerage firm, Franklin D. Wheat, Inc. since 1984. From 1974 to 1984 he was associated with Gringle and Doherty as a Realtor-Associate. Mr. Wheat, a graduate of Florida Southern College, has earned the national designations of Graduate, Realtors Institute (GRI), Certified Residential Specialist (CRS). Mr. Wheat is 1988-89 and 1989-1990 President of United Way of South Palm Beach County and recently served as that organization's Interim Executive Officer. He is Past President and Lt. Governor of the Kiwanis Club of Delray Beach and the Past President of the Delray Beach Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Wheat was the CHamber's 1988 Businessman of the Year and has also received the Delray Beach Kiwanis 1981 Life Fellow Award. Mr. Wheat was also the Vice President and General Campaign Chairman of the Board of Old School Square Cultural Arts Center in Delray Beach. Gringle, Doherty & Wheat, Inc.'s primary activity is in the residential real estate market of this area in the sale of new and existing residential properties and condominiums. The firm is affiliated with the Florida Association of Realtors, the Better Business Bureau of Palm Beach County and the Florida Investment Division. Our associates are active in Board activities, serving on a number of committees and most have community pursuits in service clubs, churches, the Chamber of Commerce and other community organizations. On October 1, 1989, the firm became known as Gringle, Doherty & Wheat, Inc. reflecting Mr. Wheat's interest in the company. In November 1993, Mr. Wheat purchased Mr. Doherty's interest in the firm and became the broker/owner of the company. The company offices are at 700 East Atlantic Avenue, Delray Beach, Florida 33483.
